Tuesday, May 18, 2010 - Volunteers Needed For FPL Extreme Energy Education Event
Volunteers are needed to help with Florida Power & Light's Extreme Energy Education (XE3) event being held Saturday, May 22 at the Treasure Coast Research Park off Kings Highway.The event will kick off at 8 a.m. with a 5K Community Run/Walk; followed by Alternative Fuel Go-Kart Races between eight different St. Lucie County middle schools from noon to 4:30 p.m. There will also be a Green Expo, hosted by the USDA and St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce's Green Committee, running 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Activities will take place at the Treasure Coast Research Park, along Campbell and Picos Roads, which are located off Kings Highway.
Volunteers are needed to help check-in and register participants in the go-kart races and the 5K run/walk. The event is free to spectators and open to the general public.
The Florida Power & Light XE3 event is being presented as a partnership between the Treasure Coast Education, Research and Development Authority (TCERDA) and the St. Lucie County School District as a way to expose middle school students to educational and career opportunities in the field of technology. Sponsors include: Florida Power & Light (FPL), the City of Fort Pierce, St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners, the St. Lucie County School District and Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers.
