Wednesday, May 19, 2010 - County Closes Two Preserves For Prescribed Burns

Bluefield Ranch and the Indrio Savannas Preserves will be closed today at 3:30 p.m. through Friday, May 21 as St. Lucie County's Environmental Resources Department and the Florida Division of Forestry (DOF) resume prescribed burns at those sites.

Prescribed burns are conducted regularly by forestry officials to decrease the chance of wildfires and improve habitat for all wildlife in these preserves. Both sites are expected to reopen Saturday, May 22.

Smoke from the prescribed burns is dependent on weather and wind conditions.

Bluefield Ranch Preserve is located at 30501 Bluefield Ranch Road, Port St. Lucie, off State Road 70, while the Indrio Savannahs Preserve is located at 5100 Tozour Road, Fort Pierce, off U.S. 1.  Both are part of St. Lucie County's Environmentally Significant Lands program.
