Tuesday, June 15, 2010 - Extension Office Announces Testing Schedule For Agricultural Presticide Applicators

Beginning Wednesday, July 7, the University of Florida / IFAS - St. Lucie County Cooperative Extension will be administering pesticide licensing exams on the first and third Wednesdays of the month beginning at 1 p.m.  Walk-ins will be directed to the next available exam date.  Test takers must have a government issued ID.  Cell phones, PDA's and personal calculators will not be permitted in the examination room.

Pesticide applicators who purchase or use pesticides classified as restricted-use by the U.S. EPA must demonstrate that they meet certification standards established by the Agency under authority of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) as Amended. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services mandate applicator licensing requirements under F.S. Ch. 487 and Ch. 388 (public health).  These mandates state that applicators must pass written examinations to be licensed. St. Lucie County Natural Resources Agent Ken Gioeli, often in conjunction with other agents, provides education training courses and licensing examination opportunities for local pesticide applicators.

For more information about Ch. 487 and Ch. 388 pesticide exams, please contact Ken Gioeli at the Extension Office at (772) 462-1660.
