Thursday, June 24, 2010 - Public Safety Staff To Participate In Annual Radio Field Day June 26-27
Amateur radio operators, including members of St. Lucie County's Public Safety and Communications Department, will gather Saturday, June 26 and Sunday, June 27 for the annual American Radio Relay League (ARRL) Field Day.With the sanction and assistance of St. Lucie County Parks and Recreation, Indian River State College, Port St. Lucie Recreation, and St. Lucie County Public Safety and Communications Department, this year there are two groups honing their emergency communications skills and testing the emergency communications equipment.
The Fort Pierce Amateur Radio Club will be operating at the Indian River State College Public Safety Training Complex in Fort Pierce. And for the first time in many years, the Port St. Lucie Amateur Radio Association will be participating, conducting their operations from the South County Regional Sports Complex in Port St. Lucie.
The actual exercise is conducted over a 24-hour period from 2 p.m. Saturday until 2 p.m. Sunday, but set-up and tear down extend these times to fill most of the weekend.
All communications are done using SSB Voice, Morse Code, Teletype, and other digital modes to other stations all over the county
The American Radio Relay League Field Day event is open to expert and novice amateur radio operators. While the Field Day is focused on setting up temporary portable stations, running on emergency power, stay-at-home and mobile units are allowed to participate.
