Monday, July 12, 2010 - Extension Office Offers Weed Control Presticide Licensing Exam Prep Aug. 6

Management of Brazilian Pepper trees, Melaleuca and other invasive plants is often necessary in South Florida's natural areas. This vegetation, if not properly maintained, can lead to increased fire hazards, loss of native biodiversity and changes in hydrology. Improper management may also result in environmental damages and decreased aesthetic and property values.

On Friday, Aug. 6, Natural Resources Extension Agent Ken Gioeli with the University of Florida/St. Lucie County Extension will be teaching a course designed to prepare students to successfully complete the Natural Areas Weed Control Pesticide Licensing Exam. Several special topics will be addressed including:

Natural Areas Weed Identification
Equipment Calibration Calculations
Herbicide Selection
Environmental Safety

Registration fee is $20 and pre-registration is required. Call (772) 462-1660 to pre-register.  Registration fees should be received by the Extension Office one week prior to the course.  Checks should be made out to St. Lucie County Extension Advisory Committee.  Mail checks to St. Lucie County Extension, 8400 Picos Road, Ste. 101, Fort Pierce, FL 34945.  Ask for the course workbook at the time of registration.  Students are asked to bring their completed workbooks to class.
