Monday, July 26, 2010 - Fort Pierce Library Announces August Movies

The Fort Pierce Branch Library announces its ''Friday Matinee'' lineup for August with a focus on comedy. Held every Friday, the library presents a free film, starting at 2 p.m.
  • Aug. 6 - "Give Me A Sailor" (1928) featuring Martha Raye, Bob Hope and Betty Grable.  A fine example of screwball farce, "Sailor" showcases the unique and varied talents of irrepressible Martha Raye as one of a pair of sisters, each of whom is after one of a pair of U.S. Navy brothers, and the question soon arises as to which of the possible pairings will ensue. Running time: 80 minutes. No rating.

  • Aug. 13 - "Ma and Pa Kettle at Waikiki" (1955) featuring Marjorie Main. Ma and Pa, along with daughter Rosie, go off to Hawaii in answer to cousin Rodney's call for help running his pineapple farm while he recovers from an illness. Running time: 79 minutes. No rating.

  • Aug. 20 - "Overboard" (1987) featuring Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.  Rich Joanna hires country carpenter Dean to build a closet on her yacht. When the two don't see eye-to-eye, Dean is left unpaid, while Joanna sets sail. Running time: 106 minutes. Rated PG.

  • Aug. 27 - "Spanglish" (2004) featuring Adam Sandler, Téa Leoni and Cloris Leachman. A beautiful Mexican woman becomes the housekeeper for the affluent, yet troubled, Clasky family. The result is a collision of cultures and values. Running time: 131 minutes. Rated PG-13.

A permission slip signed by a parent/guardian or picture ID is required for all children 12 and under to attend "Spanglish" unless the parent is attending the movie with the child. Unaccompanied children 12 and under must have a permission slip signed by a parent or guardian to attend the movie. Permission slips will be available at the Fort Pierce Circulation Desk from Aug. 20 - 27.
