The St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners is sponsoring a “Green Jobs & Innovation Corridor” planning charrette for the land in the vicinity of the Treasure Coast Research Park as generally defined in the above map. The
The County has invested significant resources laying the groundwork for creating quality jobs and sustainable economic activity at the Treasure Coast Research Park. The Treasure Coast Research Park area is home to a variety of private industry, businesses, agricultural interests, along with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the University of Florida Institute for Food and Agricultural Science (IFAS) and the School Board. It is the desire of the BOCC to encourage the land around the park to develop in a manner consistent and complimentary to the Park.
To that end, St. Lucie County is sponsoring a planning process, known as a charrette. This public involvement process is specifically designed to inform the community, discuss ideas and propose solutions and strategies to guide future policy decisions about land use, design, capital projects and general development issues. It is intended to be a collaborative effort between St. Lucie County, the City of Fort Pierce and interested stakeholders, with full public participation and with the assistance of a professional team of consultants.
This area around the Research Park is being dubbed the “Green Jobs & Innovation Corridor” and is intended to be a major hub of economic development for St. Lucie County (see attached map).
With your assistance, and the input of all participants, we expect that the charrette process will lead to a consensus on recommendations for land use and development pattern decisions. The charrette recommendations will guide our Board and staff as we chart the future course of this important hub of activity in St. Lucie County.
We thank you for your interest in the economic development of our County, and look forward to your participation in the charrette and your future involvement as we develop and implement a plan for the Innovation Corridor, based on green and sustainable initiatives, and sound planning principles.
Please RSVP to Kara Wood at 772.462.2822 or woodk@stlucieco.org by October 1, 2010 and let us know if you plan to attend.
